KML Viewer FAQ

What's the difference between KML and KMZ?

KML is plain XML text, while KMZ is a compressed (zipped) archive that can contain KML files plus images, icons, and other resources. Use our KMZ Viewer for compressed files.

Can I see the map visualization?

Our viewer focuses on extracting and displaying the data (coordinates, names, descriptions). For map visualization, you can copy the coordinates and use them with Google Maps or other mapping tools.

Are NetworkLinks supported?

NetworkLinks reference external URLs and are not fetched for security and privacy reasons. Only the local content of your KML file is displayed.

What about 3D models and overlays?

The viewer extracts placemark data and coordinates. Complex 3D models, ground overlays, and screen overlays are noted but not rendered.
